Executive Summary

When conducting OCIO searches, asset owners rely primarily on OCIO search consultants (more prevalent in North America) or in-house resources (more common in Europe). OCIOs provide a wide range of services, with manager selection, policy development, and asset allocation the most common.

Methodology

In 2023, Coalition Greenwich undertook a study with institutional investors to assess the latest trends in OCIO usage. Globally, we interviewed over 1,400 institutional investors regarding their use of OCIO and spoke with a subset of 257 for more in-depth feedback, where current users shared their experiences working with OCIOs and non-users described what has kept them from outsourcing to date and where they stood on future considerations. Interviews took placed between February and November 2023.
