Wednesday, February 7, 2018 Stamford, CT USA — The best U.S. banks are getting better. That’s the main takeaway of the 2017 Greenwich Excellence Awards in Middle Market Banking, which recognize banks that deliver outstanding quality to commercial banking clients.

At the top of the list of the 2017 winners are Frost Bank, which won 18 awards, and Regions Bank, which won 17. Both Hancock Whitney and Zions Bancorporation each won 15 Greenwich Excellence Awards, and IBERIABANK won 13. All of those banks took home Greenwich Excellence Awards at the national level in Overall Satisfaction.

Almost all of the 2017 Greenwich Excellence Award Winners also took home awards in 2016. However, most past winners not only repeated that performance in 2017, but also took home awards in additional product and service categories. “This performance shows that banks that are already good at delivering top quality to clients are getting better, and are extending that excellence across their product menus and service offerings,” says Greenwich Associates Managing Director Duncan Banfield

Excellence in Digital Banking
Greenwich Associates expanded its Greenwich Excellence Award coverage of digital banking by adding new categories covering online, mobile and the overall digital experience in cash management.  For 2017, the following banks won Middle Market Banking Greenwich Excellence Awards in Overall Digital Experience in Cash Management: BB&T, Frost Bank, Hancock Whitney, IBERIABANK, People’s United Bank (CT), Pinnacle Financial, Synovus Financial, and Zions Bancorporation.

“Middle market banking is more competitive than ever,” says Greenwich Associates consultant Dana Schwaeber. “In this environment, when banks are being aggressive in their sales calling and intensive in their client coverage, it’s harder than ever to stand out.”

2017 Greenwich Excellence Award Winners
Greenwich Associates evaluated the middle market banking platforms of more than 600 banks in the U.S. in 2017. Of these, only 43 had the distinctive quality required to win a Greenwich Excellence Award.

The Greenwich Excellence Awards are based on interviews with over 15,000 middle market clients with sales of $10–500 million and cover a range of product and service categories, including Overall Satisfaction, Likelihood to Recommend, Credit Process, Ease of Product Implementation, Customer Service, and other important factors.
